With Halloween right around the corner, we have started to make some treats. It’s tough to buy chocolate novelties at the store with food allergies, as many have the ‘may contain…’ label, so we just normally make our own.
These chocolates are tree nut, peanut, egg and sesame friendly. Hershey is really great about allergens – I have called them in the past, and their customer service takes the extra step to ensure that you have all the information you need about your allergen. We used Chipits, which have worked well for us, and they melt beautifully in the microwave.
Put them in a bowl, and microwave for 20-30 seconds at once, stirring in between.
We used a silicone mold that I found on clearance a few years ago after Halloween for the chocolates. The dollar store often has these, or Michaels near/after the holidays.
This is what the chocolate should look like after a few 20 second round in the microwave. Sorry the pic is a little blurry.
Drop the melted chocolate into the mold with a small spoon – don’t worry if it isn’t perfect looking. It will still come out great. Put in the fridge (on a level surface) and chill for about 2-3 hours. You can pop them out, and do another batch. These are so good – you can even play with decorating them by putting sprinkles or Smarties in the mold before adding the chocolate!
