We are a Mississauga, Ontario family that has decided that even though we don’t live in the country, we can still apply homesteading principles. Living in the city often means leading a busy life, running from place to place, eating takeout more nights than we would like, and feeling like there just aren’t enough hours in the day.
For us, that lifestyle is not our ideal, and comes with a lot of guilt. We love the idea of living on an acre of land, having a big garden, and hanging laundry on a line to dry. However, at this point in our lives, it isn’t feasible to pack up and move to the country. But we have found many ways that we can still adopt a modified homestead lifestyle.
Anyone can be a homesteader – it doesn’t matter if you live in a condo downtown, or on a big farm. You can still take pleasure in the simple things in life.
In this blog I will show you how to meal plan (which will cut down on the trips/calls for dinners out), how to cook from scratch (and create food you never thought you could make yourself), and improve your family’s health as a bonus.
We are an allergy family, so this site also contains many recipes that are allergy friendly, and easily adaptable. We also have articles dedicated to talking about allergies and how they impact families, and strategies that can help make things a little easier.
You will learn how to grocery shop with certain goals in mind, and in turn save significant amounts on your grocery budget.
We have a section entirely devoted to being frugal, and have adopted many of the techniques introduced by the Tightwad Gazette years ago.
If you are tired of running in the rat race, and want to embrace a simpler life, then you are in the right place. You can quit your quest to keep up with the Jones’, and enjoy the simple pleasures that come with living a more down home lifestyle.
