For the month of November, I thought it would be fun to do a Zero Waste Challenge. I did one of these years ago, and it really made us aware of how we used the food in the house, and how much really goes to waste as a result of poor planning.
Even though we are a couple of days shy of the beginning of the month, we are officially kicking this off, and will be updating regularly to let you know how we are doing.
Here are the goals for this month:
-to minimize the amount of food waste, by not throwing away uneaten food, and finding a way to re-purpose and use up what we have;
-freezing uneaten portions of meals promptly for use another time;
-making sure all fruits and veggies are eaten/used before they go bad (ok this one may be the most difficult of all of them!).
Since our fridge is FULL right now, it’s going to be a challenge to make sure none of what’s in there goes bad. I have dug out the cookbooks for inspiration (soups are a great way to use things up) and have gone through my recipes for ideas on meals I haven’t made in a long time.
Join us for Zero Waste November! Post your progress below in the comments – at the end of the month we will shout out to all those who have participated!
